From Shostakovich’s hidden musical signature to energetic folk tunes, Shostakovich & Cello highlights beauty, talent, and passion. Join the ESO, conductor Kensho Watanabe, and ESO Principal Cello, Rafael Hoekman, to experience the excitement of Shostakovich’s First Cello Concerto. Carlos Simon’s The Block is inspired by paintings of buildings along a street in Harlem. It explores musical textures that evoke the rich energy and joyous sceneries of a hotbed of African American culture.
